Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Isle of Palms. To book the largest vacation home for your budget, we highly recommend reserving in Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The sooner you can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The most desirable rental properties are booked very early. Reserving your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Property management companies sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer renters an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine upon arrival. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great local stories, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for local attractions, tours, restaurants, and shops.
Use filters to narrow your rental search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your family needs. Screen porch, Large backyard, & Pet friendly; 5 min walk to beach! - 3009 Cameron has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always available on booking pages. Otherwise, email or call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which typically includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to determine what bed configuration is right for your family.
- Looking for special amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests with disabilities. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Extra fees or charges applied to your agreement.
Know before you go:
- Add the host's contact information to your smartphone. Take a copy of check in/check out procedures.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas during arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief telephone call prevents many difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor. Often, surrounding homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking regulations reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Lock your rental home while you're away. Keep your property safe!
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, walk through the rental to reconfirm you've collected all of your things. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a fantastic vacation? Many rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
