Tricks and tips to get the optimal vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months along the coast of SC. Reserving a rental home in Fall or Spring months is our best tip for saving money on your vacation. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of acceptable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Book your vacation rental as early as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Hosts sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer customers an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many rental management companies and vacation rental houses supply Isle of Palms area travel guide magazines which include special offers, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Select your dates and max budget.
- Decide how many beds and the bed configuration your family requires. 29 24th Avenue by AvantStay
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is commonly accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email the property owner before you reserve the property. Remember that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is suitable for your trip.
- Looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters with amenity lists.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
- Some properties allow pets, and some do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask your host about pet restrictions before booking.
More tips for your visit:
- Be sure you get the owner's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Document any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the property manager. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if damages are assessed.
- Property managers are available to help! Feel free to ask questions before, during, or after your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers disrupting your peaceful home. Employ the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have never otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local! Local residents can usually help. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before departing, take a walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal belongings. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We advise walking through with the host whenever possible. If the manager is not available, ensure that you take photos of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a terrific stay? Many rental home management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they would love to hear about it. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
