Tricks and tips to get the perfect vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Isle of Palms rental home & When to go:
- To find the best value, shift your vacation week to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer excellent weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a rental home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Reserving your vacation home up to 12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Some property managers offer discounts or promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Ask your host or property manager if discounts are available for your group before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer customers an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Look for your local Isle of Palms area magazine upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have discounts for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.
How to choose the best rental home:
- First and foremost, have your family select vacation dates and a budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your family requires. WILD DUNES Home with PRIVATE POOL, Golf Views and Walk to Marina! has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is almost always accessible on booking websites. If they are not listed, email the property management company before booking the vacation home. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what configuration is suitable for your family.
- Does your group require unique amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters for amenities.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for persons with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking.
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Allowable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional costs may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
Know before you go:
- Add the property manager's phone number to your smartphone. Print and take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent many problems.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are out, just like you would back home.
- When it's time to leave, take a walk-through to confirm you have not leave anything behind. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to stimulate future bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went wrong, other families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
