Tricks and tips for getting the perfect Isle of Palms rental home experience:
Money saving strategies:
- To find the best vacation home within your budget, we suggest booking in Fall or Spring months. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, greater selection, beautiful weather and the absence of large crowds at local restaurants, tours, and activities.
- The sooner you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The best properties are reserved very early. Reserving your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and reserve your vacation home.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property managers usually offer their guests an option to obtain vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which costs between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for specifics.
- Many property management companies supply Isle of Palms area visitors guides that include money-saving deals, either offered directly by local companies, or through a relationship with the management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Narrow your Search:
- Begin by choosing a vacation week and a budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. New Listing! Coastal Retreat, Firepit, Near Marina & Beach - 28 Sand Dollar has 4 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If not, email the host before you reserve the property. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you visiting for a specific event? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or may be applied to your agreement.
During your stay:
- Put the host's contact information in your smartphone.
- At Check-in, document any damages to the rental property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, television set or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents quite a few issues.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting noise limits and parking rules reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Locals can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to grab the best tacos, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property while you are out, just like you would at home.
- Just before checking out, complete a final walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your family have a terrific vacation? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental property and/or property management company was wonderful, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was out of order and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
