Tricks and tips to get the very best Isle of Palms vacation property experience:

When to book & When to go:

  • Reserve your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families reserve their Summer rentals during holiday get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
  • Summer months are high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, try shifting your group's vacation week to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer excellent weather, fewer crowds, and greatly reduced traffic.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
  • Booking websites often offer customers an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which commonly costs 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
  • Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms area magazine upon arrival. If your rental property doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to narrow your rental search:

  • To start, have your group select a vacation week and a maximum budget.
  • Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Lumie by AvantStay
  • Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking websites. If not, email the host before booking the vacation property. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds. You'll need to work out what configuration is suitable for your vacation.
  • If your family is vacationing with pets, search for a pet-friendly rental. Ask for specifics on breed, weight, and type restrictions. Often, hosts require additional pet deposits and fees.
  • If there's an individual Isle of Palms attraction you simply love, look for rentals that are either near by, or those that cater to your desires.
  • Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to inquire about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.

Some things to know before you go:

  • Take a copy of the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental home. Store the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
  • Ensure you protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would at home.
  • To make sure that damages aren't linked to your stay, inspect for any problem areas during check in. Make contact with the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having the recorded issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
  • Be respectful. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking rules is the right thing to do.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Local residents can frequently help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for crabbing?
  • Re-check every room of the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a terrific time? Many rental home management companies make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
