Our top Vacation rental booking tips and tricks:
Get the most from your spending budget:
- Summer months are high season in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, try changing your group's trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacations during Christmas and Thanksgiving get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Booking websites typically offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which commonly will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Often, management companies supply Isle of Palms area visitor guides that include special offers, either offered directly by local companies, or through a partnership between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your Search:
- Select a group lead, choose your trip dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Palm Blvd 2401 - Will-o-Layne has 5 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is regularly available online. Otherwise, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation property. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- Does your group require specific amenities? Most rental search websites include search filters with amenity lists. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
- Traveling with pets? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Remember to ask the property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional pet fees or charges could be applied to your contract.
Considerations for your stay:
- Be sure you get the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, inspect the rental for any problem areas during check in. Speak to the host right away to relay your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, stereo or washer/dryer. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of problems.
- Respecting quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay significantly more pleasurable. You will increase your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors can be a fantastic resource to find the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up while you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to confirm you didn't forget any personal items. Remember to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Walk through the property a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, ensure that you take pictures of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a excellent time? Most rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
