Tricks and tips to get the optimal rental experience:
How to get the best rental home value:
- Reserve your vacation home in Spring or Fall to get the benefit of gorgeous weather while saving money and avoiding crowded roads, restaurants, and activities. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The earlier you can book a rental home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable rental properties are reserved early. Booking your vacation property 6-12 months before your vacation is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental home.
- Some property management companies offer promotional rates for veterans and active duty military. Check with your host or property manager to see if discounts are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to purchase vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms area magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, travel guide magazines contain deals for local restaurants, attractions, and tours.
Filter your search:
- Select a group lead, select your vacation dates, and choose a max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration your family requires. Beautiful Oceanfront Home on Quiet Street! Community Pool\/Tennis & Private Hot Tub! has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is almost always available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which usually includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is right for your group.
- If there's a particular Isle of Palms beach you love, search for homes that are either close by, or those that cater especially to your requirements.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional fees or charges might be applied to your invoice.
More considerations:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure damages aren't linked to your visit, make note of any problem areas when you arrive. Contact the property manager right away to document your findings. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, A/V setup or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, nearby homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies reduces conflict and allows everyone to enjoy their day.
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to order delicious takeout, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to make sure that you've packed all of your belongings on check-out day. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Please make sure to walk through the rental a final time and look for damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a fantastic stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was great, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
