Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- To get the best value, consider changing your family's Isle of Palms vacation to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and even October offer great temperatures, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the better your selection will be. The best rental properties are booked early. Booking your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental home.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a price reduction.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally will cost you between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed days as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
- Often, rental management companies supply Isle of Palms area visitor guides which will include coupons, either offered independently by local companies, or by way of a relationship between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
How to select the perfect rental:
- First, have your group commit to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Determine how many beds and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Oceanfront townhome, completely renovated w\/ screened porch & community pool - 33 Beach Club has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If not, call the host before booking your rental. Note that most property listings specify the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds and bunks.
- Are you looking for unique amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Use these filters to your advantage to find the perfect rental home.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about wheel chair accessibility, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your family is traveling with pets, you'll need to find a pet-friendly vacation rental. Get information on breed, weight, and type requirements. Usually, property owners require additional pet deposits and fees.
Advice for your stay:
- We recommend storing the owner's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, record any issues with the property and immediately contact the host. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of concerns.
- Be respectful of your neighbors. Frequently, nearby homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental while you're out and about. Protect your property!
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed all belongings at departure. Re-check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Document the condition of the property at check-out. We recommend taking a video during your final walk-through.
- Did your group have a great time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your property and/or property manager was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
