How to get the best vacation property experience:
Find your perfect vacation home:
- Booking a rental in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during June, July, and August.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The sooner your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation rentals are reserved early. Booking your vacation property six to twelve months before your travel dates is recommended. Winter holidays are excellent times to plan and reserve your rental property.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your host or property manager if special offers are available for your group.
- Property managers typically offer renters an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance can be a a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms area magazine upon checking in. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great information, travel guide magazines contain offers and deals for local shops and restaurants.
How to choose and book the perfectrental:
- Begin by choosing trip dates and a spending budget.
- Note the number beds and the bed configuration your family needs. Oceanfront 3rd Floor Condo in Wild Dunes Resort w\/ Community Pool! Great Views! has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
- Specific information regarding bedrooms and bed counts is often available online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property owner before reserving your rental. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds.
- If there's an individual Isle of Palms beach you long to visit, keep an eye out for homes that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before reserving a rental
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your rental agreement! Extra fees or charges may be applied to your agreement.
Have a great stay:
- Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Upon arrival, document any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, A/V setup or thermostat. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief phone call can prevent a lot of issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disrespectful visitors disrupting your life at home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great beaches and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Lock your rental property while you're gone! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- Just before checking out, take a walk-through to confirm you didn't leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for damages to contents or the property itself. We recommend walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Leave a review! Hosts rely on great ratings to compel new bookings. They'll be grateful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationing families will be thankful you shared your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Please be fair with your feedback If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to fix it.
