Our top Isle of Palms rental home booking tips:
How to get the best rental value:
- Book your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules often become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Christmas and Thanksgiving gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Isle of Palms. To find the best value, change your vacation dates to the Spring or Fall shoulder seasons. May, September, and even October offer great weather, less crowded beaches, and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months.
- Some property managers offer discounts for active duty military and veterans. Ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Booking websites typically offer renters an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which normally will cost 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any missed time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms area magazine upon checking in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental in the Isle of Palms area:
- First and foremost, have your group agree to the best dates and a maximum budget.
- Picture Perfect Home w\/ Stunning Backyard has 5 bedrooms and 5 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is commonly available on booking pages. If they are not listed, email the property manager before booking your rental. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches and bunk beds. You will need to determine what is optimal for your vacation group.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your host before booking, and study your rental agreement! Pet fees or charges may be applied to your invoice.
- Looking for specific amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find your ideal rental home.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Confirm all required amenities are included before reserving a rental.
During your stay:
- Put the host's information in your smartphone.
- Hosts are there to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Ensure you protect the rental owner (and your things!) by locking and securing the home when you are gone, just like you would back home.
- To make certain that no damages are attributed to your family's stay, make note of any problem areas upon your arrival. E-mail the rental manager immediately to record your findings. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious visitors bothering your peace and quiet. Use the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and places you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can typically help. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Before you drive away, walk through the rental property to reconfirm you've collected all personal items. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Most rental managers make it easy for customers to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property management company was wonderful, they would love to hear it. If anything was wrong and they failed to fix it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
