Tips for getting the best Isle of Palms vacation property experience:
Sticking to your rental budget:
- The earlier your group can reserve a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The most desirable vacation rentals are booked very early. Booking your rental home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and book your vacation home.
- To book the most suitable rental within your budget, we suggest booking in the Fall or Spring. You'll benefit from lower rental rates, better selection, warm weather and the absence of giant crowds at the beach and popular attractions. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with loved ones at your favorite beach.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your vacationing group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for additional information.
- Many property management companies and vacation rental houses supply Isle of Palms area visitors guides which often include money-saving offers, either offered independently by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family choose a vacation week and a maximum budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and the bed configuration your family requires. Modern Beach Home w\/Private Pool, 3 Master Suites & Short Walk to Beach! has 5 bedrooms and 6 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, contact the property manager before you reserve your rental. Note that most properties list maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, and others do not. Allowable types of family pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a single event? Try a map search to browse nearby rentals.
- Proper accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for those with limited mobility. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
Additional considerations:
- Store the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent many concerns.
- Protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking and securing the home while you are out, just like you would back home.
- To ensure that damages aren't attributed to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. Call the property manager right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about legal responsibility later, having the recorded problems and contact attempts will be very helpful.
- Be a good neighbor. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking regulations is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can often point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to charter a fishing boat, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Double-check every room of the property to make sure that you've packed everything at check-out. Remember to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We recommend walking through with the host whenever you can. If the host is not available, take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a wonderful stay? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
