Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
How to get the best value:
- Summer is high season in Isle of Palms. Booking a rental in the Spring or Fall is our favorite way to save money on your vacation home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of suitable homes. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the high season. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday on the coast? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at the beach.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open 12 months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your family qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners usually offer guests an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which usually will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for details.
- Many management companies and vacation rental houses supply Isle of Palms area travel guide magazines which often include special offers, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a partnership between the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by selecting potential vacation weeks and a spending budget.
- Decide how many beds and the configuration your family needs. Luxury, Oceanview Beach Home w\/ Private Pool & Outdoor Kitchen, Hot Tub, Rooftop Deck, & Elevator! has 5 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts is often accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, contact the property owner before reserving the vacation property. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which often includes pull out couches in living rooms. You'll need to establish which bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
- Does your family require particular amenities? Most websites include search filters for amenities. Filtering by amenity will allow you to quickly find the perfect rental.
- Suitable accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with disabilities. Make certain to ask about wheel chair entry, pool lifts and specialized equipment needs.
- If your group is vacationing with pets, you'll need to search for a property that allows animals. Make sure to ask for details on breed, weight, and type requirements. Often, property managers charge additional pet fees.
Have a great stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your phone, and take a printed copy.
- To make sure no damages are linked to your stay, make note of any problem areas upon check in. message the host right away to document any issues. If there is a dispute about who is responsible, having a record of issues and contact attempts will be useful.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents many issues.
- Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking rules can make a stay more pleasurable. You will magnify your chance to make some new local friends, and resident neighbors are usually an incredible source for finding the best local beaches and restaurants.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can typically help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to take kids for a treat, have a great night out, or the best spots for bird watching?
- Keep the property locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your family vacation.
- Just prior to departing, complete a walk-through to make sure you haven't forget anything. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Inspect the property one final time and look for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the host isn't available, remember to take photos and video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave a review! Property managers rely on excellent reviews to propel new reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something wasn't as described, other vacationers will appreciate that you share your experience find their best rental home. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host had any control over the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
