Our top Vacation rental tips and tricks:
Money saving strategies:
- Summer is high season in Isle of Palms. Book your vacation home in the Spring or Fall to enjoy beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer months. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Christmas, Thanksgiving, and New Years Eve are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules generally open twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving and Christmas get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Owners sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your family.
- Booking websites frequently offer guests an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel stay or extra fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Many management companies supply Isle of Palms area travel guides which will include special deals, either offered directly by local businesses, or by way of a relationship with the property management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms area magazine and coupon books at local shops and grocery stores.
Filter your search:
- Start by having your group choose a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Note the number bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. Lagoon view, screen porch w\/ swing bed, Pool, near beach - 3 Pelican Bay has 4 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms.
- Precise information about bedrooms and bed types is normally available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property management company before reserving your home. Remember that most property listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to establish which bed configuration is suitable for your family.
- If there's a certain Isle of Palms beach you love, browse homes that are either near by, or those that cater to your needs.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. .
- Some properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask the property manager about allowable pet guidelines before booking.
More considerations:
- We recommend storing the manager's contact information in your smartphone.
- Record any damages to the property at check in, and immediately e-mail them to the host. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain time stamps that are beneficial if there is a dispute.
- Hosts are available to help! Feel free to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers bothering your peaceful home. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Lock your rental property while you're out! Don't let thieves ruin your family vacation.
- When it's time to leave, take a final walk-through to make sure you have not leave anything behind. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental one final time and scan for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can. If the manager is not available, remember to take photographs of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a great stay? Many rental management companies make it easy for travelers to provide feedback. If your property and/or property management company was fantastic, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to correct it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
