Strategies for getting the best Isle of Palms vacation home experience:
Getting the most from your rental home budget:
- Book your rental property in Fall or Spring months to get the benefit of beautiful weather while saving money and avoiding crowds.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many families reserve their Summer rental homes during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Some hosts offer rate reductions for veterans. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if discounts are available for your family before you book.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer guests an option to obtain trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unexpected hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance might be a a welcome relief if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for specifics.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon checking in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitors guide magazines contain deals for nearby tours and attractions.
Use filters to search efficiently:
- First and foremost, have your family agree to trip dates and a maximum budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and the configuration your group needs. Modern Grand Pavillon Home: Steps to Beach, Pool Access has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is normally available online. Otherwise, call the host before booking the rental. Note that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You'll need to establish what configuration is optimal for your vacation group.
- If there's a certain Isle of Palms destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either close by, or those that cater to your desires.
- Proper accessibility can make or break a vacation for the less-mobile. Confirm all required amenities are available and included before booking.
- Do your family pets travel with you? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Type of pet, size and breeds may be limited. Ask your property manager before booking, and study your agreement! Additional fees or costs may be applied to your contract.
Have a wonderful stay:
- Get the property manager's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental property.
- At Check-in, note any issues with the property and immediately contact the property manager. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, A/V setup or washer/dryer. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're out! Don't let crooks ruin your vacation.
- Don't leave anything behind! Before departing, walk through the property to make sure you've collected everything. Make sure to check dressers, closets, and bathrooms for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did you have a great stay? Many rental websites make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it in a reasonable manner, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
