Strategies to get the perfect vacation home experience:
Sticking to your spending budget:
- Summer is high season in the Isle of Palms area. Booking a rental in Fall or Spring is a great way to save money on your vacation rental. Rates are lower, and you'll find a larger selection of desirable properties. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday vacation near the ocean? Thanksgiving and Christmas are great times to gather with family and friends at your favorite beach.
- Reserve your rental as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually become available 12 months in advance (or in September just after Summertime ends). Many families book their Summer rentals during holiday gatherings. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Property management companies sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your host or property manager to see if rate reductions are available for your group.
- Property management companies frequently offer their guests an option to buy trip insurance. Trip insurance, which generally costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed trip time as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guides have deals for nearby tours and attractions.
How to choose the best vacation home in Isle of Palms:
- Start by having your family agree to trip dates and a budget.
- Steps to Beach! has 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rental home search.
- Specific information about bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is almost always accessible on booking websites. If not, call the host before booking the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which frequently includes pull-out couches. You will need to work out what is optimal for your family.
- If there's a particular Isle of Palms destination you are enamored with, look for homes that are either nearby, or those that cater to your requirements.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others do not. Allowable types of dog or cat, size and breeds may be restricted, and added fees may apply. Ask the owner about your furry family members before booking.
During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Take a printed copy, and add a note with the directions to your smartphone.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that are valuable if there is a dispute.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent quite a few difficulties.
- Be respectful. Often times, adjacent homes are filled by local residents. Respecting late-night noise limits and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Neighbors can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to book the best tours, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for shopping?
- Keep the property locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your family vacation.
- Re-check the rental property to make sure that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Walk through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We recommend inspecting the property with the host whenever you can. If the property manager isn't available, remember to take video of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- Did you have a terrific time? Most vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your property and/or property management company was terrific, they would love to hear about it. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your comments.
