Tips and Tricks for getting the perfect Isle of Palms rental experience:
Getting the most from your rental budget:
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in Isle of Palms. To get the best value, change your family's Isle of Palms trip dates to the Spring or Fall months. May, September, and October offer great weather, fewer crowds, and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve an oceanfront rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The earlier your group can reserve a home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation property six - twelve months before your vacation dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective host if your vacationing group qualifies for a reduced rate.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which generally will cost anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for missed time as a result of personal medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your host for more information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guides contain coupons for local tours and attractions.
Narrow your rental Search:
- Start by having your group choose date ranges and a budget.
- Note the number beds and the configuration your group needs. Oceanfront Home, Pool, Direct Beach Access, Walk to Town, Pet Friendly w\/ fee- 808 Ocean has 6 bedrooms and 9 bathrooms. If you need a larger or smaller rental, use our rentals search.
- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed counts & types is usually accessible online. If you don't see them listed, email or call the property manager before reserving the home. Remember that most properties list the max. guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds. You will need to determine what bed configuration is optimal for your vacation family.
- Visiting for a single event or attraction? Use a map search to locate nearby rentals.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Make certain to inquire about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- Some rentals allow pets, but others do not. Acceptable types of dog or cat, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added charges may apply. Ask the host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
More considerations for your visit:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental home. We recommend storing the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental at check in, and immediately send them to the owner. We especially recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be helpful if there is a dispute.
- Property managers are available to help! Don't be shy to ask any questions during your stay.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peaceful home life. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to find the best bike paths, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Protect the owner (and your stuff!) by locking the rental when you are out, just like you would back home.
- Re-check the property to confirm that you've packed everything at departure. Make sure to check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Did your family have a wonderful stay? Most rental management companies make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was wonderful, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was amiss and they failed to address it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your feedback.
