Isle of Palms rental home tips and tricks:
Sticking to a rental home budget:
- Book your vacation home as soon as possible. Rental schedules usually open a year in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups reserve their Summer vacation rentals during Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years Eve get-togethers. Reserve before these holidays for best selection.
- Summer months are high season in the Isle of Palms area. Booking in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons is our best tip for saving money on your vacation home. Rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Management companies and individual rental owners often offer their guests an option to purchase trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs between 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel stay or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for details.
- Look for your local visitors guide when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local stories, visitor guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby shops and restaurants.
Planning and choosing the right Isle of Palms rental:
- First and foremost, have your family select date ranges and a spending budget.
- Determine how many bedrooms and the bed configuration your group requires. Ocean Thriller - Brand New contruction, Ocean view, Private Pool, Hot Tub has 6 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms.
- Precise descriptions of bedrooms and bed sizes & counts is often available on booking pages. If you don't see them listed, email or call the host before you book the rental. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Are you traveling with furry, four-legged family members? Although a number of vacation homes allow pets or animals, guidelines and costs vary per property. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement! Pet fees or might be applied to your invoice.
- If there's a certain Isle of Palms destination you long to visit, keep an eye out for properties that are either nearby, or those that cater especially to your desires.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or break a vacation for guests with disabilities. Remember to confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking
Have a great stay:
- Add the host's information to your smartphone. Take a copy of arrival/departure procedures.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, stereo or coffee maker. Contact your owner. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent lots of concerns.
- Protect the owner (and your things!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Upon check-in, make note of any issues with the rental property and immediately contact the owner. Keep records of all correspondence in case a dispute arises.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like obnoxious vacationers bothering your peaceful neighborhood. Use the golden rule for common sense. Happy residents may even recommend great restaurants and attractions you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Locals can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to go for the best drinks, have a great night on the town, or the best spots for fishing?
- At departure, take a walk-through to confirm you did not forget any personal items. Re-check garages, decks, and cabinets for hidden treasure. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental a final time and scan for damage. We advise walking through with the property manager whenever you can. If the host is not available, remember to take photos of the rental to record its condition at check-out.
- After your trip, leave feedback! Hosts rely on good reviews to propel more reservations. They'll be thankful for your feedback. Alternatively, if something went awry, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Remember to be objective. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the host could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded reasonably to remedy it.
