Vacation rental home tips and tricks:
When to book & When to go:
- Summer months are high season in Isle of Palms. Reserve your Isle of Palms vacation home in Fall or Spring to enjoy warm weather while saving money and avoiding crowds. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook Winter holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with loved ones at the beach.
- The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved early. Reserving your vacation rental six - twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holiday gatherings are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental property.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property owner or host whether your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property managers usually offer customers an option to add trip insurance protection. Trip insurance, which generally will cost between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of personal medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unexpected hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your property manager for more information.
- Often, property management companies supply Isle of Palms area visitors guides which include special deals, either offered independently by local companies, or through a relationship between the rental management company and the business itself. You can also find Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine and coupon books at local gas stations and shopping centers.
Finding the best rental home:
- Choose dates and max budget.
- Note the number beds and what type of bedroom configuration you need. Ultimate IOP Vacation! 6BR with Pool! NEW REBUILD! Steps to the beach! has 6 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.
- Specific details about bedrooms and bed counts is generally available online. Otherwise, email the host before reserving your home. Remember that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which usually includes sofa beds in living rooms.
- Visiting for a specific attraction? Try a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Make certain to ask about specialized equipment and wheel chair accessibility.
- If your group is traveling with pets, you'll need to book a pet-friendly property. Make sure to ask for specifics on breed, size, and type restrictions. Some hosts charge additional pet fees.
More considerations:
- Take a copy of the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your rental. Store the host's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Make a record of any damages to the rental during check in, and immediately contact the owner. We specifically recommend texts and e-mails, as they usually contain built-in time stamps that can be useful if a dispute is filed.
- Ask questions. You may want instructions for a hot tub, television set or coffee maker. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief call can prevent quite a few issues.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like disagreeable vacationers disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known about!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Local residents can often help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to enjoy a steak with a view, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your stuff!) by locking the property when you are away, just like you would at home.
- Double-check the vacation property to make sure that you've packed all personal items at check-out. Check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean out the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
- Go through the rental one final time and keep an eye out for any damage. We suggest inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the host isn't available, ensure that you take photographs of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your group have a terrific time? Many rental managers make it easy for customers to provide comments. If your rental and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was imperfect and they failed to correct it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
