Our top Rental home tips and tricks:
Finding the best value:
- Summer time is high season in Isle of Palms. To get the best value, try shifting your trip dates to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warm weather, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to reserve a beach front rental that would otherwise be unavailable or unaffordable during the high season.
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after the Summer season ends). Many groups book their Summer vacation rentals during Winter holiday gatherings. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- Veterans and Active Duty Military members may qualify for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager whether your group qualifies for a price reduction or discount.
- Property management companies usually offer their guests an option to buy vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which normally costs 1% - 5% of the booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as ensuing additional evacuation costs or charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a bank account-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Look for your local Isle of Palms visitors guide upon arrival. If your rental doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores and visitor centers. In addition to great local information, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby accommodations, restaurants and tours.

During your stay:
- Review arrival and departure procedures before leaving home. Save the instructions to your smartphone, and take a printed copy.
- During check-in, document any issues with the property and immediately alert the owner. Record all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of concerns.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like unpleasant vacationers bothering your quiet neighborhood. Apply the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would've never otherwise known!
- Don't forget to... Ask a local resident! Residents can usually help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to rent beach equipment, have a great night out, or the best spots for fine dining?
- Keep your rental home locked while you're gone! Don't let thieves spoil your vacation.
- Re-check every room of the property to confirm that you've packed all of your family's items on check-out day. Re-check closets, dressers, garages, and bathrooms for hidden items. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.

- Did your family have a fantastic vacation? Many vacation rental websites make it easy for vacationers to provide comments. If your rental property and/or host was great, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
