Tricks and tips to get the very best vacation rental experience:
Find your perfect rental:
- Reserve your vacation home as early as possible. Rental schedules generally become available twelve months in advance (or in September just after Summer ends). Many families book their Summer vacation rentals during holiday get-togethers. Book before these holidays for best selection.
- June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. Reserving a rental home in the Spring or Fall is an excellent way to save on your rental home. Rental rates are lower, and you'll find a better selection of suitable homes. Speaking of the off-season, don't overlook the holidays for a Isle of Palms vacation! Who wouldn't love a holiday near the ocean? Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years are great times to gather with friends and family at your favorite beach.
- Property managers sometimes offer discounts or promotional rates for active duty military and veterans. It's always a good idea to check with your host or property manager to see if special offers are available for your family before you book.
- Property managers frequently offer their guests an option to add trip insurance. Trip insurance, which costs anywhere between 1% - 5% of the base reservation price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed days as a result of personal medical-related issues or weather disasters, as well as hurricane evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask your property manager for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine when you arrive at the rental property. If your rental home doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitor guide magazines have coupons for nearby tours, shops, and attractions.
Make a plan and choose the rightrental home:
- Choose your vacation week and spending budget.
- Decide how many bedrooms and what type of bedroom configuration your group requires. New Oceanfront 3rd Floor Condo w\/ Spectacular Views! Pool & Pier Access! has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathrooms.
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. Otherwise, email the property owner before reserving your rental. Remember that most listings specify the max. guest capacity, which oftentimes includes sofa beds and bunks. You will need to work out what is best for your trip.
- Some rental properties allow pets, but others don't. Acceptable types of pet, size and breeds may be restricted, and additional fees may apply. Ask your host about allowable breeds and types before booking.
- Are you looking for particular amenities? Most rental websites include amenity lists and search filters.
- Appropriate accessibility amenities can make or ruin a vacation for guests that require the use of a wheelchair. Confirm all necessary amenities are available before booking.
Advice for a smooth stay:
- Take a copy of the owner's contact number and arrival/departure procedures for your .
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a garage door opener, intercom or washer/dryer. Contact your host. They are there to help! A brief phone call prevents lots of issues.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by keeping the rental locked up when you are gone, just like you would at home.
- To make certain that damages aren't attributed to your family's stay, note any problem areas during check in. Get in touch with the host right away to document any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of problems and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Respect the neighborhood. Frequently, adjacent homes are occupied by permanent residents. Respecting late-night quiet hours and parking policies is the right thing to do.
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can usually point you in the right direction. Who better to ask where to see a beautiful sunrise or sunset, have a great night out, or the best spots for crabbing?
- Double-check the vacation property to confirm that you've packed all belongings at check-out. Re-check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Inspect the rental a final time and look for damages to contents or the property itself. We suggest inspecting the property with the property manager whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager is not available, remember to take photos of the property to record its condition.
- Did your family have a wonderful vacation? Many rental management companies make it easy for guests to provide reviews. If your rental and/or property manager was fantastic, they will likely appreciate your kind words. If anything was imperfect and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your review.
