Tricks and tips to get the perfect Isle of Palms rental home experience:
Finding the best value:
- To find the best value, try changing your group's vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and October offer warm weather, , and greatly reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this strategy to find larger homes within budget, or to book a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unaffordable during the Summer months.
- In the Isle of Palms area, The sooner your group can book a vacation home, the better your selection will be. The best vacation homes are booked very early. Booking your vacation home six to twelve months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and reserve your rental.
- Active Duty and veterans of the US Armed forces may be qualified for special discounts. Be sure to ask your prospective property manager or host if your group qualifies for a special rate.
- Property management companies often offer their guests an option to purchase vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for any missed vacation time as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather, as well as ensuing additional hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel or additional fuel expenses. Trip insurance is definitely a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask the property owner for program terms and fees.
- Find a copy of your local Isle of Palms visitors guide magazine when you check-in. If your rental property doesn't have one, you can find them at local grocery stores, shopping centers, and visitor centers. In addition to great articles, travel guides have deals for local tours and attractions.
How to pick the perfect vacation rental:
- First and foremost, have your family decide on a vacation week and a spending budget.
- Views
- Specific descriptions of bedrooms and bed counts & types is normally available on booking pages. If they are not listed, contact the property manager before you reserve the vacation home. Note that most property listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes pull-out couches and bunk beds.
- Are you visiting for a specific event or attraction? If so, use a map search to locate nearby properties.
- Appropriate accessibility can make or break a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all required amenities are included before booking
- Are you bringing the family pet? Many vacation homes allow animals, but guidelines and restrictions apply. Allowable pet type, breed, and size are often limited. Make sure to ask before booking, and study your agreement thoroughly! Additional pet fees or applied to your contract.
During your stay:
- Take a copy of the host's phone number and arrival/departure procedures for your rental.
- During check-in, record any damages to the rental property and immediately alert the owner. Keep records of all coorespondence.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a fireplace, intercom or appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of difficulties.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your peace. Practice the golden rule for common sense. If they like you, locals might even recommend great restaurants and scenic spots you would've not otherwise known about!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local! Neighbors can frequently help you find exactly what you're looking for. Who better to ask where to get the best seafood, have a great night out, or the best spots for BBQ?
- Keep your rental home locked while you are out! Don't let crooks ruin your holiday.
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all personal items. Check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden belongings. Clean the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Go through the rental a final time and look for any damage. We advise inspecting the property with the host whenever you can (often this isn't possible). If the manager isn't available, take video and pictures of the property to record its condition at check-out.
- Did your family have a excellent stay? Most rental managers make it easy for vacationers to provide feedback. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to fix it within reason, or if the vacation rental wasn't described correctly, you'll want to make it a point as part of your review.
