Tips for getting the best vacation home experience:
When to reserve a Isle of Palms rental home & When to go:
- In the Isle of Palms area, The earlier your group can reserve a vacation rental, the easier your search will be. The most desirable properties are booked early. Reserving your vacation home 6-12 months before your travel dates is recommended. Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years Eve are excellent times to plan and book your rental.
- To get the largest vacation home within your budget, we recommend reserving in the Fall or Spring shoulder seasons. You'll enjoy lower rates, greater selection, gorgeous weather and the absence of giant crowds at Isle of Palms restaurants, tours, and activities.
- Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer rate reductions for veterans and active duty military. Make sure to check with your property manager to see if special discounts are available for your group.
- Management companies and individual rental owners frequently offer customers an option to add vacation insurance. Trip insurance, which will generally cost 1% - 5% of the base stay price, offers visitors reimbursement of their vacation costs for any days missed as a result of medical-related catastrophes or weather disasters, as well as evacuation costs, such as an unanticipated hotel or extra gasoline expenses. Trip insurance might be a a life-saver if the unforeseen occurs. Ask the property owner for additional information.
- Find a copy of your local visitors guide when you check-in. If your rental doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and visitor centers. In addition to great local articles, visitors guide magazines have offers and deals for nearby restaurants, attractions, and tours.

- Precise information regarding bedrooms and bed types is commonly available on booking websites. If you don't see them listed, call the host before you reserve your home. Note that most properties list the maximum guest capacity, which often includes sofa beds.
- Some properties allow pets, but some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and added costs may apply. Ask your host about pets before booking.
- Are you visiting for a specific attraction or event? Use a map search to find nearby properties.
- Suitable accessibility can make or break a vacation for those with limited mobility. .
Have a fantastic stay:
- Get the owner's contact number and entry/exit procedures for your rental. Put the manager's information in your smartphone and wallet.
- Ask questions. You may need instructions for a hot tub, television set or WIFI setup. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message prevents lots of problems.
- Ensure you protect the property owner (and your things!) by locking the rental while you are out, just like you would at home.
- To make sure no damages are attributed to your family's visit, record any problem areas when you arrive. Speak to the host immediately to record any damages. If there is a dispute, having a record of concerns and contact attempts will be helpful.
- Be a good neighbor! You wouldn't like troublesome visitors disrupting your quiet neighborhood. Practice the golden rule for best judgement. If they like you, locals might even recommend great local food and scenic spots you would have not otherwise known!
- Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can usually help you find the best spots in town. Who better to ask where to launch your kayaks, have a great night out, or the best spots for fishing?
- Don't leave anything behind! Just before you drive away, walk through the rental property to make sure you've collected all belongings. Make sure to check bathrooms, garages, and back yards for hidden belongings. Remove everything from the refrigerator and take or dispose of leftovers.
- Record a video to document the condition of the property.
- Leave a review! Property owners rely on good reviews to inspire new bookings. They'll be grateful for your review. Alternatively, if something wasn't right, other vacationers will will be grateful for your feedback and help them have the best future vacation. Be fair with your review. If something fell short of expectations, consider whether the manager could control the issue, and if so, whether they responded expeditiously to fix it.
