Tricks and tips to get the best Isle of Palms rental experience:

Finding your perfect vacation home:

  • The earlier your group can book a vacation home, the easier your search will be. The best vacation homes are reserved very early. Booking your rental up to 12 months before your vacation is recommended. Holidays such as Christmas and Thanksgiving are excellent times to search for and book your vacation rental.
  • June, July, and August are the most expensive months in coastal SC. To find the best value, consider shifting your vacation to the Spring or Fall seasons. May, September, and even October offer warmer temperatures, , and reduced traffic. Many vacationers use this method to reserve larger homes, or to reserve a beach front vacation rental that would otherwise be unavailable during the Summer.
  • Hosts and Property managers sometimes offer discounts for veterans and active duty military. Remember to ask your property manager if special offers are available for your family.
  • Property management companies usually offer customers an option to add vacation insurance protection. Trip insurance, which will generally cost between 1% - 5% of the base booking price, offers visitors reimbursement of costs for missed trip time as a result of medical-related emergencies or weather, as well as hurricane evacuation charges, such as an unanticipated hotel overnight or additional gas expenses. Trip insurance can be a a life-saver if the unforeseen happens. Ask your host for program terms and fees.
  • Look for your local Isle of Palms area magazine when you check-in. If your rental home doesn't have a copy, you can find them at local shops and fuel stations. In addition to great information, visitor guides have coupons for local tours, shops, and attractions.

Use filters to search efficiently:

  • Select vacation dates and maximum budget.
  • Determine how many bedrooms and the configuration you need. Modern Villa in Wild Dunes! OCEAN VIEW! Great Central Location! Walk to Amenities! has 1 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms.
  • Precise details about bedrooms and bed counts is usually accessible on booking websites. Otherwise, reach out to the property owner before booking the home. Note that most listings specify maximum guest capacity, which typically includes sofa beds in living rooms. You'll need to work out what bed configuration is best for your vacation family.
  • Some rentals allow pets, and some don't. Acceptable types of pet, weight and breeds may be restricted, and additional charges may apply. Ask the property management company about allowable breeds and types before booking.
  • Is your family looking for particular amenities? Most websites include amenity lists and search filters.
  • Suitable accessibility can make or ruin a vacation for persons with a disability. Confirm all necessary amenities are available and included before booking

More tips for your stay:

  • Get the owner's phone number and check in/check out procedures for your .
  • Ask questions. You may want instructions for a fireplace, intercom or kitchen appliance. Contact your property manager. They are there to help! A brief text message can prevent a lot of problems.
  • Lock your rental home while you're out. Protect the owner's property and your stuff!
  • Make a record of any issues with the rental during check in, and immediately contact the host. We especially recommend e-mails and text messages, as they usually contain time stamps that can be helpful if a dispute is filed.
  • Be respectful of your neighbors. Often times, surrounding homes are occupied by local residents. Respecting noise limits and parking policies can make a stay significantly more pleasurable.
  • Speaking of neighbors... Ask a local resident! Locals can often help. Who better to ask where to spend a rainy day, have a great night out, or the best spots for shopping?
  • Upon check-out, take a walk-through to make sure you have not forget anything. Make sure to check bathrooms, dressers, and closets for hidden items. Clean the refrigerator and take any leftovers home.
  • Record a video to document the condition of the property.
  • Did your family have a wonderful time? Many rental management companies make it easy for clients to provide comments. If your property and/or host was terrific, they always love to hear your praise. If anything was inoperable and they failed to address it reasonably, or if the vacation rental wasn't as described, you'll want to make a note as part of your feedback.
